I have above MPG mounted in the CPU/Monitor box and I am going to use as is = no small LCD display.

So what I see there will be many I/O pins left over, so my question is can I use these inputs I need to Limit/Home for X/Y/Z ?

Reason is that once upon time this was built with Siemens controller and all cables from Switches are in this box and would be very simple to connect these to the 7i73. I assume there is no speed-limits affecting the functionality in any way.

I have used this MPG unit with Mach/Pokeys and would like to know if 7i73 can handle this matrix keyboard of 4x5, 2pcs 11-pos switches, 1 enable, 1 E-Stop, MPG and 2x16 LCD. 4x4 individual LED's on buttons.

Cheers
Bengt

Hmm... maybe... The LCD may be supported but depends on type. The keypad matrix would need to be set to
4x8, leaving 16 inputs and 10 outputs free. 8 of the 10 outputs could make a 4X4 matrix LED drive but you
would need some way to mux or encode the 11 x2 switches (a slight crazy way would be to use the switches to select a tap from a resistor divider array (all same value resistors) and read these on two A-D channels, one per switch

OK, that can be solved for the handheld as I have that on the board. Will get schematics tomorrow.

But is limit / home switches OK on the other I asked about?

The limi/home switches on my lathe come from a 7i73 mounted inside the apron, so it can work.

In my case I have MPGs on the apron, so it made wiring easy. It seems a bit odd to run a few wires into the control pendant handle limit switches. Or am I misunderstanding the proposal?

Even with a Mesa setup you can still use the parallel port and the serial port status pins for extra IO if you want/need to.

2 different questions, and you answered my first question that is limits/home to 7i73 as I already have all wires in one place.

Handheld is another problem to be solved in future.

Actually, what else is in the box with the sinumeric MPG? Quite a lot of the Mesa cards can be configured to have dedicated MPG inputs, including the 7i76 and 7i84.

In that box on a swing out arm there are following:

PC (to be connected via ETH to 7i76E)
MPG with 2 4x rotary switches
4 switches
4 control lights
E-stop
and Limits + and - /Home for X/Y/Z
So all above would be nice to have connected to 7i73 = would simplify cabling.

7i76E and 7i85S will be in other cabinet with all power/VFD/Motor drivers etc

Re limits and home switches.

The machine is originally wired NO (in my opinion maybe not the best solution for safety reasons)
Have had a relay-board to fix this but now I would like to dig out all unnecessary multi-cables mostly
to get rid of all old original Siemens installation.

Any thoughts about having the limits/home switches NO as I would like to take out the relay-board
this just for clean install that is easy to get a overall view of.

Will need 24VDC to drive signal lamps as well as home/limits/switches so there is space for a small PSU
230VAC outlet is present in the CPU cabinet.
