Just to clarify. "minimal" here means "just enough". There is an interface provided that allows you to access the UARTS on the Mesa FPGA.
I would _love_ to see a Modbus driver that used the Mesa UARTs.

There is UART support in the firmware (PktUART) and minimal LinuxCNC driver support

Andy is that something you could develop on the bench with say a 7i76e or 7i96 and a VFD not attached to anything? Surely with what you've done (RX & TX), it would not be too hard a project? I just wish I had a bit more time right now.

That would make life too easy. It would have many applications though. Raster engraving with a laser comes to mind.
