drive small dc servos was created by vre
Hello
i have a trotec laser machine that has faulty controller.
The rest of the machine is ok.
It has 3 dc servos (first 2 photos are x axis servo next 2 y axis servo / z is same motor as y).
What servo driver can i use to drive these motors that accepts step-dir driving signal?

The encoders are simple AB incremental rotary encoders 500CPR .
I have attached the datasheet
www.avagotech.com/docs/AV02-1046EN

i know with H bridge + mesa card can drive the servos with linuxcnc but because it is engraver machine
mesa cards firmware can't do engraving the problem is the laser source pwm modulation...

PCW i think before 1 year has told that can make a mesa firmware for real time engraving but i don't know
if this function is done yet in mesa firmware.

If i use 3 of these drives
www.leadshine.com.ua/pdf/dcs810s.pdf
leadshine dcs810s
to drive servos with step dir and a
chinese laser controller like ruida rdc6442g that outputs dtep-dir
will be better?

There is laser modulation firmware available (the datapainter module) but there is no LinuxCNC driver for this module yet.

The datapainter module is basically a stepgen that outputs data from a FIFO instead of steps, the data can either be 1 bit data or 8 bit PWM. Because its 'position locked' to a hal pin via PID it can be used for raster (using an axis commanded or actual position) a spindle encoder for cylindrical objects or a calculated path length for arbitrary paths

Same thing but does not use laser, it uses a DC motor to apply pressure to the spindle, using PWM.

Almost forgot

Might work. It says it works with the 5i20 but does not mention the newer cards. This might just be an omission.

Not step-dir control, but do you actually need step-dir?

Linuxcnc does not do raster engraving with mesa cads.
So i will take a chinese laser controller that outputs step dir and
3 dc brushed servo drives leadshine dcs810 that accept step dir to drive servos

Linuxcnc CAN do raster engraving provided the gcode.
It can do almost anything any other machine can do. It is a machine controller, not a CAD/CAM !
I use it for raster engraving on many machines as you can clearly see on the link above and on my youtube channel.

tommylight your engraving results are not good.
see this
www.sauno.ru/ENG/
It is hammering with needle.
Iam interested making a machine like this with linuxcnc.

Yes those look better if they are to be believed, but i have seen similar machines that did not even come close to what i get and they where about 4 to 5 times slower than mine. Mine do a full size picture (35x20cm) in 25 to 30 minutes.
