trying to convert a super slant 3 axis with Siemens 6RB20 servo drive. would like to use these drive as i am selling this machine and any additional part increase the price. have all the machine manuals but seem to be missing the wiring chart and the Drive manuals. have a mesa 7i49 that read the revolvers but having trouble with the drive pinout on the 6RB. managed to get the drive to enable but there is an error light the jumps around on the drive cards then i have to turn the whole drive off to reset it.
any know about these drives?

It might be worth also asking on CNCzone

The old Siemens drives all have the same pin numbers. I have some info but not sure now for what drives. Will have a look tomorrow.

There are two enable pins that needs to be set: drive enable and speed regulator enable. I think the pin numbers are 64 and 65. I will send you the info i have.

ya found them an there daisy chained on my machine, there was a master relay that was not turning on so any move commands cause a drive fault. think i got the 7i49 working but there is an encoder on the spindle, and the 7i33 fail to load.

this line works (linuxcnc starts)
loadrt hm2_pci config="num_pwmgens=6 num_3pwmgens=0 num_stepgens=0 num_resolvers=4 num_encoders=4 "

but no encoders show up, think it is a firmware but not sure.

also this machine has a Z2(tailstock/ ID turret) and any info on setting that up would help

mesaflash --readhmid will tell you what is in your firmware.

(mesaflash -h should tell you what other parameters are needed)

HI
The document is too large to attach here. I have sent you a PM.

I have 6RA20 documentation showing the circuit diagrams. if you need them. I also found this

www.google.co.za/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=...4juSmjxot9s_BEdtFBgD

The pin numbers are the same for most of these drives.

so of course my is different then the 6rb21 but i got it mapped out from the controller end.

this thing has a ton of IO requirement, i found the machines wire map and looks like i need to make up 13 DB-25 connectors. what do you think get a second 5i24 and put the resolvers and some IO on the first and the encoders (spindle, 2 turrets,MPG) with the input IO on second?

i have a 5i24-16, 7i49, (2)7i33 and a 7I42TA, mainly for testing.
was thinking of buying a second 7i42TA and a 5i24-16 (24?)
set up like this
5i24.0
7i49 slot 1
7142TA slot 2
Open Slot 3
5i24.1
7i33 slot 1
7i42TA slot 2
Open Slot 3

but maybe i get one of the bigger ones with 4 connectors.
open to any ideas, could run some IO on parport i guess

to andypugh

i installed the 5i24_16_sb6_7i49.bit
and my card is set up like this
5i24
7i49 (bottom Connector)
7i33
7142TA (top)

If you have a lot of I/O especially 12/24V I/O
you might want to consider using some SSerial cards rather than 2x 5I24s
for example you could have

1 5I24 -->
7I49
7I33
7I44 -->
7I84 x2
this would give you 32 12/24V outputs and 64 12/24V inputs (from the 2x 7I84)
and still allow expansion to more than 300 I/O points

wow like that
are the encoder inputs on 7i84 fast enough, for motion?
if so then i don't need the 7i33 ether
