It is arbitrary, but if you change it, it will affect the PID parameters so dont change
it after you have tuned the drives

With velocity mode drives, there is something of an advantage to setting
OUTPUT_SCALE = velocity (machine units/second) at 10V
( so now all PID numbers are in normal engineering units )

If this is done, FF1 is = 1.0 and the PID values dont change if changing from
inch to metric machines

OK I am at the point when I am trying to turn on external things like the spindle, collet closer, turret, etc, but I don't appear to have any response on the ouputs of the 7i37 board. Hopefully it is something basic I am missing.
I have the OUTn+ terminals connected to the ground side of 24v relay coils. (The other side of the coils are at +24v). The OUTn- terminals are daisy chained together to the 24v GND. With halshow, I can watch the hm2_5i24.0.gpio.0nn.out pins go off and on, but the voltage across the OUT+ and OUT- remains unchanged at 24v. I have tried to setp the pins TRUE or FALSE as well.

Which GPIO pins are you using and which 5I24 connector is the 7I37TA connected to?

I am using GPIO pins 064-071 for outputs. The 7i37TA board is connected to the farthest connector from the motherboard on the 6i24 board. This connection is labeled P1 in the manual, but it shows up as P2 on the pin list. The inputs on the 7i37TA board appear to be working.

Are the "is_output" attributes set for GPIO 64..71?

No. I knew it must be something basic missing.

Where do I set this attribute? Is it simply: setp hm2_5i24.0.gpio.064.out is_output

setp hm2_5i24.0.gpio.064.is_output true

also you probably want

setp hm2_5i24.0.gpio.064.invert_output true

so the outputs are active true in hal
