ok, for the tc229, im looking at new delta asd-a2 drives and matching motors - 750w x/y, 1kw z, and then a delta c2000 5.5kw drive to run my spindle. the c2000 is a vfd that can run ac servos with encoders. all of these will take +- 10v input.
i looked at a lot of options for reusing the existing axis servos, but the cost difference to a new delta setup was negligible.
someone i know is using allen bradley ultra 3000 drives with the stock motors, which can be had used fairly cheap, but they seem to have a very slow velocity loop of 300hz (vs 1khz+ for newer systems) which makes me think it wont give good high speed tracking.
anyone have any thoughts on this? ive only ever run step and direction before on comparatively slow machines.

i found some sanyo sanmotion R analogue input drives for $300 us a piece with free shipping. looking at the manual, they should be compatible with the older sanyo motors. i can enter in the correct encoder count. sooo, we'll see early next week. they should arrive tuesday maybe.
if they work, ill order the delta spindle drive and off we go converting to linux

hmm. so these drives take a motor profile, which is 53 parameters but they are in hex format.
they have profiles for P5 series motors - 1 model newer than mine (still 90's). in the p5 literature it says p5 is a compatible replacement for mine (65z), and some of the drive instruction manuals meant for the p5 series suggest being compatible with the 65z, though i cant fine motor profile files for them. so i am going to use the motor profile for the p5 model that matches mine. same frame, same speed, same torque.
ill measure the resistance one mine and compare to the p5 specs. if they match, or they are very close, i imagine it should work no?

It should be close enough to work at least. I guess very-wrong numbers might lead to problems tuning.

well, its off by a fair bit. the spec of the p5 motor is 1 ohm. my motor is 2 ohms.
i translates the hex to numbers... some of them are obvious, 4 poles, 3600 rpm, most dont correlate to anything on the spec sheet. some are common among many motors. none of them look like they could mean 1 ohm either. why cant they have normal parameters like everyone else?
anyhow, i guess we'll just try it and see. the drives are here, i need to wait for a special serial cable first before playing with em.
