After years of running, my first break down

Was looking at the 7i44 and it has 3 R45 cables connected to it.

I tried to disconnect and reconnect each of them but one of them is stuck, I can't pull it out of the plug.

I removed the other cables so that I could see why it is stuck.

It has some brown melted plastic on the connector like it overheated.

I traced the cable to the cabinet where the monitor and dials are located.

I found out that there is a 7i64 board at that end so I was wrong about 2 boards (there are 3), I forgot about the board in the monitor cabinet.

I tried very hard to pull the RJ45 out of the 7I44 but could not do it with my hands (and I am fairly strong).

The connection at the other end of the cable to a 7i64 does not show any signs of trouble.

So I am thinking I should order a replacement 7i44 and install a new cable and look to see if a mouse got to the cable or something.

If I don't see any problem with the cable maybe I should replace the 7i64 at the other end just to be safe?

Since the other 7i64 boards seem to be working I wonder if II could replace the RJ45 cable and connect it to one of the unused sockets?

Thanks for all of your help!

You could connect the control panel 7I64 to one of the unused sockets but you would have to do a global replace of
"7i64.0.0" with say "7I64.0.2" in your hal file

There should not be enough power at the 7I44 to melt a connector but I have seen low quality plastic insulation revert to
walrus snot after a few years

OK I will try that,

I was looking at the web page about 7i44 and it mentioned being limited to 1 amp so that doesn't sound like it would melt plastic.

Maybe the plastic just wasn't very good and it deteriorated.

Thanks for all of your help, without it I would of had to disconnect and reconnect all of the cards as i replaced them one by one.
It looks like more than 100 wires.

IMPORTANT: I meant to say replace "7i64.0.0" with say "7I64.0.3" in your hal file
You definitely don't want to use 7I64.0.2 since that's one of the existing 7I64s

As always make backups before you do any major editing...

I pulled the cable out of the roughly 3"x 3" square conduit that it goes through (along with a 100 or so other shielded wires) and see that a mouse has chewed through the plastic cover over a 5" span and through the stainless mesh wire in a small place and got down to the wires..

The cat is in big trouble!

I replaced the cable in a different socket, renumbered the hal file and it miraculously worked on the first try. (that never happens for me).

Thanks a million for your help!
