Best cam software to use for plasma cutting

If you have F360, you just need sheetcam to build a good reliable system.
In F360, flatten your part (if sheetmetal) and then create a new sketch on that face.
Then you can right click this sketch on the left hand side and save as DXF.
Then open the DXF in Sheetcam and use the array function if you want to cut a few parts.

I use sheetcam and the addons for CandCNC electronics and software. Sheetcam does have a tab feature and could be used to keep parts from tipping up. You can set how many tabs and what size to use, so a single tab that is small might do the trick, but I have not used it for that purpose. You could make a dxf of your slat table and have that as a locked layer in sheetcam, then move your part where needed. My slats are 4 feet long and are set with a bow of 2 inches in the center so I don't worry too much about where they land. Ramp and wiggle lead ins are also an option, but I don't know if that is stock sheetcam or part of any addons from CandCNC. Sheetcam does calculate cut time with the simulation and it used to have a report feature that would tell you how many inches of cut, how many pierces it had, and the time to cut.

Inkscape certainly isn't cad or cam software and I only use it when I need to do graphics type work vs. geometric lines that are easier on cad. For cad, I use siemens solid edge community edition which is a free version. Businesses with the commercial version can not open the files from the free version, but it is fine to save as a dxf and import into sheetcam or fusion 360.

Anyone just try using dxf2gcode?

I just got a little laser going and was a bit surprised there weren't more options. Nothing against paid software but it's alot easier to just try something out if it's open source.

I tried gcodetools for Inkscape, but I couldn't figure it out....probably just not patient enough. I went back and forth with dxf2gcode a couple of times and seems like I got it figured out. For some strange reason it doesn't have a plasma/laser configuration option, it's meant for mills I guess but I've never had the urge to use a DXF on my CNC mill so not sure it's really targeting the right group.

Anyway after some configuration that isn't quite obvious it seems I have it working pretty well. It does cutter comp but I don't bother since a diode laser kerf is pretty small.

I'm just using F360, I draw all my work in there, often using the sheet metal functions when the target is plasma cutting.
Flatten the part and insert some bend relief lines. Generate G-code.
The "new" F360 post processor works great. Spotting, small holes, cutting with and without lead ins/outs.

QtPlasmaC can do many things on its own.
Cutting using an rotated coordinate system no problem with a laser marker.
It can't do nesting but it can make multiple parts in one or two dimensional arrays.
Load the G-code and use the block feature in the conversational section.
QtPlasmaC can also do wiggle piercing or ramp piercing, just that this needs to go
into the post processor and there it isn't. So hand editing.

I was set on using Sheetcam again after I rebuilt the plasma table, which took long enough time that I forgot how to work with Sheetcam.
The "new" F360 post processor made wonders, that problem with "arc ends differ" was a real annoyance but is completely gone.
A drawback is the kerf width which is hard-coded in the G-code file. If I change my mind at the plasma cutter I must regenerate G-code for the new kerf width.

Regarding nesting, check out  www.deepnest.net/en/ that does nesting of svg and dxf 2d parts.
A browser version of an early version to quickly try is here svgnest.com/ (skip deepnest.io)

Can it also do g-code for plasma cutting?
