Maybe a radio button to select the pwmgen mode would be the most straight forward...

ok I think I'm was a bit slow yesterday.
Probably what Peter meant and I didn't pick up on is that there is no reason we wouldn't want the PWM signal to respond to the spindle speed.
so if we set up type 1 PWM all the time a user can choose the signals as he likes:
one direction - spindle PWM and spindle cw ( using the cw signal as an enable pin )
two direction - spindle PWM and cw and ccw (for say using two relays to change direction)
two direction - spindle PWM and cw (for converting to positive and negative analog signal)
Does this make sense ?

I pushed a fix for this to 2.4 and 2.5.
spindle pwm will now be type 1
