I have been getting some great aid on this forum. I hope I have not worn out my welcome.

I cannot seem to get any speed out of my Nema 23 motors. I have Stepcon at 200 for speed and
300 for acceleration. The motor turns pretty slow and takes about 1 minute and 30 seconds to
move about 18". I have changed the numbers up and down. I always get the same time. I cannot
seem to get and rpm's out of the motor free wheeling or attached to something. What info would
I need to provide to work this out. Even a motor in my hand set to 200/200 turns about 20 or 30
rpm's. I see on the web these thing can get to 10,000 rpm's ????

What numbers are you changing and where? Please be very specific so we can help.

What drives do you have?

10k rpm is not realistic for a stepper and I assume your talking stepper here....

There are three basic settings:

Driver Minimum Step and Direction Timing or how long the step and direction pulse must be on and off for a drive to work.

The Scale which is how many steps it take to go one user unit.

The Maximum Velocity and Acceleration which depend on the drive, the voltage, the mass and the sticktion.

Twiddling numbers without knowing what they do never seems to work...

Stepper motors are Nema 23 275 oz. Longs Motors model 23HS8610.
X Axis Configuration screen
Motor steps per Rev 200
Driver Micro 1
Pulley Teeth 1
Leadscrew Pitch 1
Maxi Velocity 200
Max Acell 200

I am using an Acme screw 1/2 10 tpi.

If you need more I will provide including screen shots if needed and videos.

If this isn't a typo and is the value you used, your steppers will be turning 10x slower than they should. :laugh:

(you would only travel 1/10th of the distance commanded too, so should show up!)

I am in inches. The acme screw you say I should up. What do you mean by that. What number should I use.
If I use 10 for 10 tpi things get worse. I have changed that number a few times.

You really can't just guess at the scale number...
If your step motor is 200 steps per revolution and your driver is not using microstepping and your stepper is connected to your 10 TPI acme screw then your scale is 200 x 10 = 2000. The 2000 number is the number of steps per inch. Once you set this number then verify that a G code command to move 1" actually moves one inch. At that point you can start working on velocity and acceleration.

OK today I worked only on getting a correct movement. I have the motor moving the rail 1" here are my settings now.
Step Time 5000, Step Space 5000
Dir Hold 2000 , setup 2000
Base Jitter 8500 , Max Step Rate 42553 Hz

X Axis Config This is the axis I am working on
Motor steps per Rev 400
Micro-stepping 4
Pulley Teeth 1:1
Lead-screw pitch 10
Max Velocity 0.2
Max Acceleration 10.0

How does this look so far. I can set run for +/- 5" and the total travel of the gantry is 10" 's. but very slow ?
