I think it is going to be easier to edit your own HAL file than to edit your own bitfile.

Hey my dear friends!

We build a config with some basics like PWM x,y,z Axis and encoder x,y,z Axis. We tried to change the HAL in the Linuxcnc panel, we just need to know, if its the right way to change the files. We startet our CNC project via linuxcnc, when its loaded, we open "show HAL". We found a guide where we can change the links between the Pins on the mesa cards and EMC2, with commands like net and unlinkp. After changing them in "show HAL" we copy the whole commands in the custom_postgui.hal file. Now every time we start our project it should change the things which are written in custom_postgui.hal is that right?

We also got some problems with the description of our signals, because they are in german. we cannot find most of the signals in the "signals" column in linuxcnc, they do not seem to fit in there. maybe you got any advise for us how to handle it? we looked up the integrators manual for the signals, but it doesn't help us a lot, so that we just have to guess which signal is meant.

Greetings

Simon N.

Well, that is one way to do it, but wouldn't be the way I would do it.

It is probably much better to just edit the main HAL file. This means you can't use pncconf on the config without reverting the changes, but once the HAL file exists it is as easy to alter things there as it is in pncconf.

I'm with Andy, once you start modifying your .hal files it is time to give up on pncconf and stepconf.

Can you be specific about what "got some problems" is? That is much to vague to even guess at the answer.

We solved that one, we just generated new signals in german and hand-edit their destination now. We just have to translate the meaning of the german signals to the englisch ones. We don't intend to use pncconf anymore, we just used it for basic configuration. We are editing now via HAL, as long as it is possible, but if you say we can change everything with HAL it should work that way in some time!

Hope you can understand my bad english^^.

Best regards

Yes, instead of using unlinkp go to the main hal file and make your changes there to the net line. Much easier to follow in the long run.

Hello again,

now the Resolvers are working just fine but the analog outputs stopped working. We changed the slot 2 and 3 from the 5i22, because of the bit file PCW send us.

In this bit file the resolver is set on P3, the encoders and AOUT's are set on P2. If we connect the resolver card on P3 the AOUT's dont work, but the resolvers are fine. If we put the resolver card into slot 2, the AOUT's works and the resolver didn't.

But we need both the resolver signals and the analog signals, we also tried to connect the AOUT's from the 7i48 while we are using the resolvers on the 7i49 but this also didn't work.

Could you change the Bit-file from PCW to AOUT and Resolver on P2 and the encoder on P3? We dont know how to edit/compile the Bitfile. Would be great!

I'll add the dmesg file for you to take a closer look into it.

Most likely your hal file does not match the hardware
with the sv12-7i48_7i49 configuration, there are a total of 12 PWM
generators for analog out: 0 through 11.

PWMGen 0 through 5 are connected to the 7I48 and
PWMGen 6 though 11 are connected to the 7I49

(you can see this in your dmesg list if you enable all 12 PWMGens)

Actually it should be simpler. I do wish there was a better naming scheme for the I/O pins so that HAL configurations were more portable.
