That's what i started with but i think i was talked into 10.04 here on the forums but i forgot why. I'm planning on getting a new pc as soon as i can. Is there a problem with using tk in the meantime to just get it running?

edit: looks like we switched over to 10.04 to get the newer trajectory planner. I'll be doing alot of heavy 3d work with the machine. I'm heading over to work on it today. I guess if I can't get anywhere we can try 8.04 till I get the new pc.

the motherboard is an adaptec 1999 and all the dates on startup are 1999. If you feel strongly about switching to 8.04 please let me know and I'll get it started. I am wondering if I can dual boot 10.04 and 8.04 so I don't loose all the 10.04 stuff.....is this possible? I tried to load the hal config from tk & it wouldn't come up & im wondering if thats part of the problem also. Just want to get the machine working for now. Please advise. thanks.

All of your configuration files are in /linuxcnc/configs so you can just copy them.

Ok, now I've got one hard drive with 10.04live and another with 8.04. The 8.04 set up with emc 2.3. also will not show the entire axis screen..........I don't know exactly how it is supposed to look or load up but it seems that all the black area to the mid-right of the screen is not working. It also will not pull up any of the configs i was using in 10.04(axis or not). I'm sure I have something wrong in the custom configs that's probably the difference in emc and linuxcnc.....tried changing a few names around but it didn't work. I'm not too worried about the configs not working yet but the axis problem is bothering me. My video card is an ati 128 rage from around 1999. I can probably get my hands on a different video card if thats the problem.
