No need for that! I know Linux has a reputation but sometimes things are reasonably easy.
Set the controller PC up with this installer image:
www.linuxcnc.org/testing-stretch-rtpreempt/
You will want one of the the amd64.iso files. (Probably the r9, but if that has trouble installing, try the r8)

Has anyone else done a PM-940-CNC? One of the guys I work with just got one and is looking to go the 7166E route as soon as they are in stock again. It actually is a pretty nice looking mill with a wide dovetails compared to the rest of the mills that size. It came with a 4th axis rotary table, but could be interesting with the Dakota 5 axis table setup that a group of CalPoly students made for HAAS OM mill. digitalcommons.calpoly.edu/mesp/305/ is the download of their paper with the drawings and parts list.
