Hi Bob,

1 Terrabity sound's good !

Your parport adres is : 0x378
That is what your dmesg | grep par provides you.

Thanks for your reply.

I just installed clean the debian version and when LinuxCNC runs it does not give the power toggle clicker and does not run the tests when run in stepconf.

I even tried a different hard drive that was only 160-gig hoping 1Terra drive might have been to much.

My older IDE system runs, but all the newer DVD and hard drives are Sata and had no way to run a new install, and now this is the second board I've purchased with on-board parallel that is having troubles. 1st board I sent back thinking the port was bad.

I can't imagine having this much trouble.

Now your board does not have troubles, now you have to figure out what pin controls what on the machine.
Just some pointers:
- in stepconfig do not use "e-stop in" at the pin settings window
- in stepconfig you have to find the pin that enables the drives ( or the clicker as you call it ), for that you can try pins 1, 14, 16, 17, one of them must work, if those do not work then try 2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9
- stepconfig might not actually enable the drives, read somewhere on this forum that it does not, i am certain older versions did.
- in stepconfig do not set any input pins, you can do that later on after you get it working.
Let us know if that works, then we can help you set up other things, like limit switches or probe or anything else you might need.

Ok.

Thanks. I will give this a go. The older version was so much easier. I'll not set anything in stepconf. most were showing by default so I left them in the pin settings.

I was also using the old settings from 10 thinking it would have made things go smoother.

I started a new clean install with Ubuntu 12.04. Debian lost it all when I was blacklisting ppdev and parport_pc that was recommended in another question in the forum, then it would not load parport at all.

One more time. Glad it's a weekend.

Ubuntu is a little better than Krfb with the desktop share since I have the setup in the garage.

Nope e-stop-in was never enabled. I left it all default on 1 through 17,

Never having to set the pins. I'll work on it more when I get to that step.

I set the port to 0x378, I'm not sure what selection to make in the pins for the movement.

I left them all at default.

Tommylight,

Thank you so much.

I got the old 10. hal, ini, and stepconf files imported.

Now it moves all 3 axis for the tests, The power toggle when I run the program is not available.

This is the closet I've been with this new drive and motherboard.

Any suggestions where to look now?

Thanks
Bob

Got it all working.

So glad. I was really trying to figure this out. I can't imagine what was in the old files that they now worked. When I imported them before it would error with the debug information.

Thanks again.
Bob
