New Problem was created by islander261
I've waited a bit over a week but haven't heard any discussion about these problems. I recently updated my EO branch and things haven't been going smoothly. Please look at the state of the commits I have installed:
jd@plasma1 ~/linuxcnc-dev $ git log --oneline -5
784db03 External Offsets: Axis coordinate offset hal pins
0cab365 Hostmot2: Fix #513 - Cause an error message to show on watchdog timeout.
2e8f4d3 Multispindle: Further docs updates
1343487 Multispindle: Docs Update
826232c Multispindle: CLean up some commands that needed a spindle choice but lacked one

Every time I start LinuxCNC I get the following message box popup:

Then on top of all this when I look in the terminal that I started LinuxCNC from it is flooded with these measages;
Before: spindle 0 speed 0.000000
Before: spindle 1 speed 0.000000
Before: spindle 2 speed 0.000000
After: spindle 0 speed 100.000000
After: spindle 1 speed 0.000000
After: spindle 2 speed 0.000000

This is the last little bit, after the upgrade I am getting this message in the terminal when I am setting up my work piece ( I haven't changed what I do and never had these errors before):
Emit interp-run
wrong motion mode, change to the correct one
(<__main__.gmoccapy object at 0x7f2e85f03b90>, <Dialogs object at 0x7f2e85f22aa0 (Dialogs at 0x346ed40)>, 'alert')
(<__main__.gmoccapy object at 0x7f2e85f03b90>, <Dialogs object at 0x7f2e85f22aa0 (Dialogs at 0x346ed40)>, 'alert')
(<__main__.gmoccapy object at 0x7f2e85f03b90>, <Dialogs object at 0x7f2e85f22aa0 (Dialogs at 0x346ed40)>, 'alert')

I do have my system running after chasing down all the new spindle names in my pendant hal files and fixing them.

Will all this be fixed with the next update? When will pull request #509 or apparently renumbered to #512 be included in an update?

John

Have you tried letting the conversion script run on your configuration files?

Can you zip up your config file and email it to me so that I can try to work out why the conversion script isn't "taking"?

What the script is trying to do is convert the spindle pin names for you.

But if it runs every time, something is wrong.

Oops, that's something I left in by mistake. I will fix it.

Hmm, islander261 has always been using master branch so for the conversion script window to trigger indicates there is something wrong with the logic in deciding if it should be displayed as he's never used Version 2.7.

I believe that when the multi spindle feature was recently merged into master the upgrade script was changed and version incremented so that old configs (including JA Master ones) could be updated for the new changes.

Yes, the script is fixing the spindle section but its message still suggests its changing to joints/axis even if just upgrading 2.8

The message is the same regardless.
I didn't see a great deal of point in making a new message for the relatively small number of people who are on V1.0 and need to upgrade to v1.1

Guys,

Thank you for the replies.

I have been running 2.8.1-Pre since I started with LinuxCNC (needed JA for gantry mechanics).

I ran the offered upgrade script once the first time I started after the upgrade. It didn't get all the name changes correct in my hal files but a bit of chasing down error messages on startup (in the starting terminal) along with finding changed manual entries got me going in about an hour. If I run the upgrade script again now it posts a message box saying that my configuration is up to date and exits without changing anything.

Andy

Thank you for posting the instructions and files for implementing pull request #509 and #512 in the other thread. I will try and patch my system today when I go out to the shop. Because I have to prepare and go to the mainland for our first holiday sale of the season tomorrow I will not be able to do live cutting tests until the beginning of the week.

Andy

Please find attached the .zip file of my configuration. I am using the no_eo_cleanup1.ini file for my present working configuration.
