That's all rather unusual.
Can you open a terminal and just type "halrun" and see what is printed?
(If there is no error then you will need to use "exit" to get back to the shell)

I have found what is the main problem!
I had someone load Debian onto my computer and there are two copies of it. One on each Drive. The updates are going to the alternate drive, and the linuxCNC is looking to the first drive. As soon as I figure out how to fix this problem, I will likely have more questions, but at least most of this will make sense, instead of looking to empty files.
I appreciate everyones assistance, my brain is beginning to uncloud from the loss of my son.
