Sorry if I offended you. Of course you can mention screw pitches. But is it relevant to the op's question in my opinion it just muddies the water for a new op.

I linked those charts to show that there are more than one pitch is related to a particular diameter. Yes some diameter/pitch combinations are more common than others.

Just the clear things up, the pitch is the distance from one peak to another peak (or trough to trough) which is equal to the amount a nut will move when rotated one full turn.....that is for single start threads which are the most common dealt with. Which more or less backs up what has previously been stated.
