As the tittle says I am considering building a small hobby CNC Plasma as a project. I cannot justify a Hypertherm Powermax45
But I have found this from R-Tech. www.r-techwelding.co.uk/plasma-cutter-r-tech-p30c/ If I get this with a machine torch am I likely to get any success with it. Or is it just a toy. I want to build a 1200x600 or 1200x900 size machine.
Thanks for any advise.

"Amperage adjustment 15-30 amps with a High 35% duty cycle @ 30amps"
I think you would need to work out what the current rating is at 100% duty cycle to judge its capability for machine use.

That looks like it's a 30A inverter, might be OK for thin stuff but not for 12mm as it claims.
Can you find a used one, preferably the big ones with a transformer.
Most important information's regarding plasma and CNC are:
Current
Duty cycle
Duty is always written on the back plate, do not buy any that do not have at least the minimum of 30 to 40 Amps at 100% duty cycle.
Also avoid any that has maximum current at 30 to 40%. Minimum should be 60%.
Hand cutting and CNC cutting are two different beasts.

Thanks for the response and advise. Then this might be a better model. www.r-techwelding.co.uk/plasma-cutter-r-tech-p50hf/
Amperage Range 15 - 50A
Input voltage/amps 240v 32A
Clean cut mild steel 18mm
Severance cut mild steel 24mm
Clean cut aluminum 13mm
Clean cut stainless steel 13mm
Air consumption 100Ltr/Min (3.5CFM) @ 3.45 Bar (70PSI)
Post flow air Yes - Cools torch when cutting stopped
HF Pilot Arc Starting Yes - Enables easy arc starting
Cooling fan Yes - Cooling fan with thermostatic protection
50amp cutting power at a high duty cycle of 60%
I take it the pilot arc is an advantage as the other had HF start?
I am only looking to cut 5mm max and as a hobby not in production.

Clive, get the 50 amp one with the CNC interface. It is a rebadged unit from Everlast. I started out with one of these. If you ask Rtech nicely, they might sell you a machine torch that is compatible with Hypertherm which will make your life easy. Also push them for cut charts as they sent some to me.
If you use a Mesa THCAD board, it sees the divider resistors as belonging to it so select the 16:1 divider on the plasma cutter but set the divider in Linuxcnc to be 24:1.
There is some more information on this thread at plasmaspider I posted where rtech posted a couple of times under the user name rrossetti
plasmaspider.com/viewtopic.php?f=111&t=23700
If you read carefully, I did mention the CNC socket part number (Weipu SP21 12 pin)
Take the time to fully earth your table as per the recommendations by Hypertherm (they have a document on this) and install an IEC RFI filter on the mains power inlet to keep any RFI noise under control and you will be sweet.
I just saved you about 50-100 hours of stuffing around with this info!
I Will say my Thermal Dynamics (and no doubt Hypertherm) has a much cleaner voltage signal and is not subject to the erroneous voltage divider with THCAD but that could well be becasue its 3 phase.

we use the 400V types as they do run about 6hr per day
but on HOBBY all you need is 250.-
www.ebay.de/itm/PLASMASCHNEIDER-STAHLWER...is-10mm/202565999568
the shop has all on P80 -> head 50Euro ATTANCHEN THERE A 2SETS of P80 as of the CABLE Size
www.ebay.de/itm/P80-CNC-Brenner-Schneidb...AHLWERK/372335022023
look and ask the shop bevor buy

Well thanks but they don't ship to the UK. Also I think they are HF start I thought I needed not pilot arc.
Do I need pilot arc ? (plasma in all new to me)

no you dont
as you start around 1.5 mm above it eill detect the sheet and fire
never got problem on that with the P80
IF You are in the UK
Stamos expondo got a shop there
www.expondo.co.uk/stamos-basic-articles/
GET Plasma into search
