Now the question is whether these wireless keyboards are setting caps-lock all by themselves or something is actually pressing the key.

Speaking for myself I think it’s operator error. When things go bad I grab for the keyboard and I think when I pick it up I accidentally hit the caps lock. The fact that there is no indicator in the keyboard that caps lock is on just made things baffling. When verifying the issue it was a matter if pressing p or s and if nothing happened pressing caps lock and seeing if things then worked. Now that I know the problem it shouldn’t be critical in the future. Also I now use the number keys to slow down the feed speed to gain more time.

I hate caps lock, it's a huge key that I have never deliberately used.
I have been known to make wire clips to hook under it to disable it.
