Problem with a MESA 7i76

Hi everyone,
We've got a problem making a 7i80db-7i76 set-up to work. The 7i76 is connected to 5 motors, with the step/dir signals hooked up to TB2 and TB3. From the software side, we've used a configuration for the MESA boards from the standard LinuxCNC configuration collection. The problem is that only the fifth motor works (connected to TB3), while the other four (connected to TB2) don't. We have already tested the step/dir pins with an oscilloscope: for the TB2 we read constant high signal on the step pins for all cases (without and with jogging), while on the TB3 the signals are correct.
Do you have any idea of what might be the problem?
Thanks in advance.

Attach hal and ini files so we can have a look.
Check the stepgen.0...... if the numbering is correct.

That looks all god.
What is the output of mesaflash when you do readhmid ?
Might also want to remove these lines from the hal file:
setp pid.x.error-previous-target true
setp pid.x.maxerror .0005
for all 3 axis.

Ok thanks I'll try and delete those lines. The output is:

That also looks good.
Can you try to change in the hal file:
stepgen number to 8
everything with stepgen.0 change to stepgen.5
everything with stepgen.1. change to stepgen.6
and everything with stepgen.2 change to stepgen.7
that shout put all the stepgens on the J3 header.

Ok thanks for the quick feedback. I've tried but nothing happens! The oscilloscope we had in the lab is not working so I cannot test the pins.

I would try making the step length longer than 1 usec (1000 ns)
1 usec will fail on 95% of step drives

5 usec is usually a better starting place

I've also tried your solution but still no results.

No outputs from stepgens 0..3 could also be the result of a damaged 7I76
(the first 4 stepgen outputs come from 2 chips, 1 for the + step/dir outputs and 1 for the - step/dir outputs)

Do the direction outputs work? (check + and -)
what are the output voltages?
