They did, but I think HAL is much the same.
They did, I think, put some stuff in so that you can add extra modules to a running HAL. When I questioned if that was really all that useful I got told to leave, so don't know how that went.

I was under the impression the MK guys changed the some parts of how the various components communicate. .

That is totally unsurprising. I’ve seen people trying to get info on what differences there are between linuxcnc and MK and it’s more or less like questioning the existence of (insert name of preferred supernatural being).
Ok I’ll give it a shot once I dig the little mutt out of where ever I put it down, probably hanging out with that M6 bolt I can never find.
