Hi, linux cnc people my name is Frank80 I'm a newbie at linux cnc. Actually my name is Frank and I happen to be 80 years old, hence Frank80. My problem is 'tho I'm an old time machinist and have built a small but very heavy gantry type mill, I don't have any experience with Linux. I'm using a Mesa 6i25 pcie fpga board and the 7i76 daughter board with their connecting cable. So far so good, but nothing works yet. I had to move a jumper on the fpga (6i25) board to get 5vdc to the 7i76 board (I have the Led ON ). Also had to get a 24vdc wall wart for the field pwr to the 7i76 TB1. I now have both Led's ON the 7i76 board.
Linux will not run but immediately shuts down. I think after reading the Linux msg, it's looking for a spindle drive, I don't use a digital spindle drive. Linux seems to be looking for 9600 baud etc ,etc Spindle Drive connection. After finding None, Linux Begins a shut down.
My Spindle VFD is connected to 7i76 TB4 analog spindle outputs (0 to 5VDC). My VFD doesn't accept digital speed inputs.
What to do? I hope some body knows. I'm not a programmer. I'm just an old man who wants to experience a digital machine. Your help will be much and greatly appreciated.
Thanks for your help
Frank

I'm using Linux 2.7.0, I don't know yet what it's running in maybe Unbunto, don't know yet. Any way about half way down the PRINT FILE INFO, it says
'killing task linuxcncsvr, pid=3363'
'killing task milltask, pid= 3682'
Also in the DEBUG FILE INFO it says
3363 pidtty stat time command
3682 pidtty stat time command
I think this occurs just after linux can't find the Spindle access for digital speed inputs.

Oops, the DEBUG FILE INFO also says
'stopping realtime threads'
'unloading hal components'

Can you post the config files ie. machine_name.hal and the machine_name.ini file from the config folder.

As that would help a lot

Thank you Clive S. I don't know where the config files are located I will gladly send anything you think you need, if I can find and figure out how to copy them. This Linux is a mystery to me. I know much of the interface is by command line, i'm very intimidated by the command prompt from early days of DOS in the mid 70's one mistake "poof " everything's gone. Please be patient.
I'll look for the files.

Open the home folder, then linuxcnc folder, then configs folder, copy the folder with the name of your machine.

thanks for the help! I've found the requested files, found both in franks_cnc_file_ manager. Both are plain text files. now the question is how to copy them to a stick.
I plugged in a 8GB stick nothing happened. and second can the files on the stick be sent to the forum page?
