I really am lost as for why this is not working. I literally did the same thing you did.
I have a 7i92/7i76 connected.
I dont know what else to do. If I do another config, I would do the same thing and it would behave the same. I have done it 4 times now. three different computers.
I don't get it.

I am at a loss as to why it is not working for you, i did test last night on the big PC without a machine attached and it also worked as i can see the LED's on the parallel port monitor doing their thing.
Can you attach that gcode so i can give it a run?

I am installing Linux Mint 19.3 Really don't think it is that but I have been testing on linux mint 18.
Maybe something in python in that version is causing it. I don't know, wild guess.

Cant get it to work with Linux Mint 18.3 with master.
It doesn't work,.
I do have it working with Linux Mint 19.3 with the same config.
May be that certain version of master.. I don't know, but I lost alot of time on this........

Most probably a Python issue as it has been changed a lot lately and somehow they just dumped backward compatibility.
