Regarding Mint 20 & 2.8.0
Focal has libboost 1.67 but for some reason it's not being found. Which is the same version as Buster
Is the build system bound too tightly to Debian ?
Whilst Tommy's method will get you a running Linuxcnc install, trying to build either run in place or packages doesn't work.
Even installing a Debian kernel can cause problems when you want to build kernel modules, I have seen differences in gcc and other packages that cause issues. That's why I'm of the opinion to keep packages from the same eco system.
I know it's annoying.

libboost-python 1.7 doesn't have a python2 so
1.67 does but 1.67-dev is uninstallable because it removes 1.7 and breaks the system.
It's annoying yes - I dislike debian _ I much prefer Mint

Same here, there is always something that does not work as it should in Debian.I dislike debian _ I much prefer Mint

I managed to install all the 1.67 packages.
With all the interest with Mint I wonder why there are no official packages. I keep a repo for 19.x series but only for 2.8 preempt. And I only do weekly builds, when my memory works.
Hopefully something will be sorted prior to 2023 when 19.x goes out of LTS. But then I guess 21 will be out and every man and his dog will want to go to 21.
I bet if Linuxcnc was firmware on a MCU no one would be overly concerned about updates every ten minutes.

I am slowly moving to 20 from 19.3, so far so good and id does seem a bit snappier. Oh and it installs Blender 2.8 as opposed to 2.7 on 19.3, still thinking i might make some time to actually learn to use it!

Ok got a RIP build of master, instead of using the Debian packages that Tommy used I used Ubuntu packages.
Still have an issue with the DRO characters in the preview screen in Axis.....I think there was a fix for that mentioned somewhere.
Can confirm build of 2.8 works using bionic packages.
Can also confirm installation of 2.8 uspace package from my repo will install using Bionic packages.
Have not confirmed installation of linuxcnc-uspace-dev yet
