That is handy, but where do I find it? The one I had the issue with I downloaded from the download page of linuxcnc.org (linuxcnc-2.8.2-buster.iso) two days ago - on the 4th Aug 2021 - it was shown there as the current release.

With some hardware you might also need to turn off DPMS.

I found online I wanted to remove the screen locker task from the startup list on xfce. I did that, it doesn't lock the screen now but the screen does go to sleep even with LinuxCNC running (it wasn't running g-code at the time I saw it, though).
Is the best solution still "sudo apt install xscreensaver" and then open it up and disable the screen saver?

Screen sleep is generally dpms, like I mentioned above.
