Hello
I wonder if one can partition a 32GB microSd memory card and then install two different versions of Linux on a raspberry pi4?
If so, how would one go around making a bootloader where you choose what version to load, if not you could use the second partition to store your user files. It just seems cutch a waste of space when you know how little space LinuxCNC uses, and if you buy a smaller card the speeds goes down.

Maybe something like this is what you are after ?

Considering the price of SD cards I just swap them out, not that often mind.

Yes you're probably right, they don't cost a fortune now days.
I see many varn against using a Pi for the LinuxCnc as they don't think it's up to the task, what are your experience with the Pi4, and what controller cards are you using between the Pi4 and the router. I haven't bought any cards yet, but will need to control 3 axis with stepper motors and one spindle.
One last question: is there a "GoTo" small form factor pc, with or without parallel port that are especially recommended/suited for the LinuxCnc and a router build. I'm thinking of buying the Sorotec compact line, but they don't have any option for LinuxCnc, only for Mach3/4 and EdingCnc.

From what i've read here, RPI4 is good enough to run a machine, but i would suspect anything 3D/CAM will bring it to it's knees.
Even RPI3 is usable for just running the machine and a bit of 2D / Inkscape, but using bigger files will slow it down significantly. Still, the machine runs properly despite slow downs.
For use with RPI4, Mesa 7i92, 7i96, 7i76E, 7i95, 7i97, 7i80, etc. can be used, but for a beginner 7i96 and 7i76E are perfect.

It will only be used to run the machine, no cam. I guess the 7i96 and 7i76E comes at a cost to, so how does this compare to buying and using a small form factor PC?

Thanks, so you prefer one without a parallel port, do you then buy a pcie parallel adapter to put in the cabinet, or do you solely rely on the mesa cards to run out of usb/ethernet?
