It looks like you put a lot of effort into that software, whats the difference between yours and pconf thats part of the lcnc package? ive always modified my hal files by hand so im not familiar with either.

So, I think you are looking for a 1:1 mapping that simply does not exist. The 5i25/7i76 HAL pins correlate to functions, not to specific terminal block pins.

It isn't all that straightforward. For example all the 7i76 GPIO pins are controlled by two of the smart-serial pins (DB25 pins 7 and 8) And the stepgen HAL pins do not look anything like you would see with a parallel port. You will just see stepgen enable and position / velocity command pins in HAL, and the terminal blocks that these produce steps on can not be altered in HAL. so hm2_5i25.0.stepgen.0.position-command will produce steps on 7i76 TB2 pins 2/3 and dir on TB2 pins 4/5 and those steps are passed through from the 5i25 on DB25 pins 14 and 1.Ive looked all over and cant seem to find any documentation that correlates a physical connection to a HAL pin name.

Thanks Andy, the more I worked with the 7i76 the more I realized exactly what youre saying, I initially started working with input0 which is where I thought physical pins and HAL pins corresponded to each other. Then, when I started working with the spindle encoder I realized my original thoughts were wrong. Its great that people like yourself, BigJohn, Chris and many other people take the time to lend a hand to many of us that are beating our way through the bush....it makes it easier. Thanks again for the support, I appreciate it.
