7i96 Probe Problem was created by imslo
I have been trying all day to get a probe to run on the 7i96 board. All day I have been getting the "probe tripped in non probe move" error . I have tried all I know to try. I have changed wires to the probe, changed the probe and put the probe on another terminal on Tab3. Of course I changed my file to reflect this.
Following is 1 probing file I am trying to run:
G38.2 z-1 f5
g1 z .25 f15
M2
There's several other probing files that get the same error

What GUI?
How is the probe wired to Mesa 7i96?
Use hal show to watch the input of the probe, see if it changes state.
Hal show is included with LinuxCNC, machine menu.

GUI is Axis.
Wiring is from +5 volts through probe to terminal 1 in Tab 3. I have had it hooked to +20 volts with same results. When probe trips it stops and shows the error. Does not retract.

Is the probe polarity correct? (0 when not tripped, 1 when tripped)

I don't think the probe changes after a trip. I know it is tripped and it seems like when it trips nothing else happens but showing an error. I can jog it out of the trip normally sometimes I can't do that. It works right when reaching max probe depth. When it reaches that depth it will retract. I don't think any false tripping is occurring. I have tripped it manually many times with the same results.

Is the probe signal a 0 when not tripped and a 1 when tripped?

Went back out to shop tonight. In hal show probe-in is red until tripped then yellow.
When released goes back to red. where do I find the 1's and 0's

That's correct, yellow = 1 dark red = 0
I wonder if this is a contact bounce issue so may need debounce.
You might try plotting the probe signal with halscope to see if there is a bounce

It might be contact bounce but the same thing is happening with 3 different switches. My probe is a push button switch.
