And the reason (I think) why you see a problem and others generally don't is that your motor motion is not tied in to motor-fwd and motor-rev (and there is no reason for it to be in your case)

So... I'm getting the feeling that I've done something horribly wrong (again) during my installation of LCNC.
terminal session 1
mill@mill:~$: halcompile -h
bash: halcompile: command not found
terminal session 2
mill@mill:~$: . dev/linuxcnc/rip/scripts/rip-environment
This script is only useful on run-in-place systems.

Just so you know, I installed Debian 11 non-free, then ran the script located at:
github.com/joco-nz/lcnc-bullseye-installer
for the automated install. I selected 'Developer' during both prompts (LCNC & Qtpyvcp), and got no error messages during the installation.

In that case, it looks like running the updater.sh script will fix carousel once I am back home and fix the bug in the sources.
But, you probably do have halcompile on your PC, you just need to find it.
sudo find / -name halcompile*

Yes, I do have halcompile; found it a few days ago buried in dev/linuxcnc/rip/something.
Problem is that it doesn't run. sudo: halcompile: command not found happens even if I try to launch when I've navigated to the folder it's in.
I've checked, and it's got the permissions set to run as a program.

I just pushed an update to 2.8 and master.
It's building the 2.8 debs as I write this, the master/2.9 debs should follow after that process has finished.
But, as you are building from source, the update.sh script that you have should build with the bugfix.

Thanks Tommy. Navigating to the folder and adding the ./ seems to get it working.
Still got an error - just seeing if it worked - but at least it's responding.
I've attached a screenshot of the catfish search results. Would you mind having a look and seeing if it looks like I've got multiple installations or some other new user screwup? While I'm starting to pick up on LCNC a little, Linux is still driving me crazy.
Andy - the update.sh script is the one from the github site I downloaded, right?

FIY, next time you install Debian, when it asks for RooT password just click next.
You are running as root on a Linux box, most user software is made to be used as a user not an admin(root in Linux).
