Move Axis before going with custom button

I have the problem that my home switch position is not the best one. To home the X axis I mostly have to move it to the opposite direction of the homing direction.

So my idea is to have a button for the X axis homing that first makes the axis move about 40..50mm in the one direction and then starts the homing procedure.

Is this possible?

What about just reversing the home search direction?

Yes, I had the same idea yesterday. I just changed it in the ini, but the problem now is that my X zero position has moved about 10mm because of driving against the switch signal from the other side. And there will be sometimes the situation that I'm on the opposite site. Just depending the last operation I did.

Best really would be, to drive about 50mm in x- direction and then starting homing in X+ direction

Sounds like you have a home switch not on one end of travel as is usual.
In this case it's best it you can make the switch mechanism toggle either on or off, depending on what side of the homing point it is on.

Then linuxcnc knows which direction it must go to get off the switch and rehome.

Yes I have a separate home switch because the travel of the axis is so long to the end switch.

I think that would be difficult because it is a inductive sensor that gets the signal from a small screw head.

I taught it would be easier to have small programming, but seems that it is not that easy

I believe you can set up linuxcnc to allow MDI before homing.
It's possible to have a button call an MDI command to move the axis.
gladevcp or qtvcp can do this.

Yes I can give it a try. But than i still have to wait until the axis arrives and have to home separately. The most comfortable way would be if the machine starts homing automatically after the move

yes that can be done too with gladevcp or qtvcp

That would be great. I'm just starting with pyvcp and integrated a go home button. But don't have an idea how to setup a programming or button that first moves the axis and then makes homing.

Some hints would help, don't need to be a complete solution.

Do you have any idea?
