How to display parameter values in LinuxCNC

How can I display the value of a named parameter or a number parameter like
#5400
or
#<tool-in-spindle>

Is there any way I can get the whole error message when entering a  "MDI" command?
I get error messages in the bottom right corner of the Axis display, but they are chopped off.

Thanks,
Mike

This might help

And the error messages are not chopped off, there is nothing more in them:
There are words in your gcode starting with E that the interpreter can not understand
