How to setup probe on Mesa 7i96 was created by imslo
I'm trying to set up a probe on my Mesa 7i96.  I am running +5vdc to one of the input pins.  I have the pin configured as probe in.  The probe is not working.  Should I be running +24 vdc?

I'm sorry folks I do have a problem just the opposite of what I had before. It just plain does not recognize that a probe is hooked up. I have checked and I do have +5vdc going to input pin 1. I tried all the things I was told to do before and linuxcnc won't run if I put that stuff in the files.

No, +5 volts DC should be enough. Make sure the probe is hooked to the pin in the right way. If it still doesn't work, try moving the probe to a different pin and trying again.

Beware that first input (or output) pin on Mesa headers is input.00 in hal, not input.01

I think the probe is hooked up the right way. I have +5vdc going to that pin when the probe is closed I have checked that already. It will be very difficult to get to it move but I guess I will try it. It's hook to the second input pin which is labeled 01..

Some of the probes (like the one I have) are active low. Generally the  7i96s is wired active high but you can choose to change that.
Also, my probe can handle up to 24 volts.

Use "show hal configuration" from the "machine" menu to monitor the pin the probe is attached to.

I am using a momentary push button switch for the probe hooked up to +5vdc. The screw on the pin where the probe is attached shows 5 volts. What link are you referring to share. Hal does not show the pin on or off. The board is not seeing the probe. The pin would show up in some of that debounce stuff I was trying yesterday. On my config file on Tab 3 pin 1 I show probe in.
