Good morning, I wanted to know how to install the rtai kernel on Debian 12 linuxcnc 2.9.2, I'm trying to do it according to the manual, but my latency got worse after I installed the rtai 5.4 kernel, my latency went to 200k, with preent rt 6.18 it was at 60k.I previously had Debian 10 with Linuxcnc 2.8.4 with Rtai 4.19 kernel, it worked perfectly on its 15k.However, I want to move on to the newest version, I'm still practically a beginner, so I apologize if it's something very simple. Could you tell me how to install the rtai kernel on linuxcnc 2.9.2 on Debian 12.4 step by step? I would really appreciate it

It sounds like you successfully installed the kernel.
After booting I check you are actually running the correct kernel.
uname -a will tell you what kernel you are running.

If it is incorrect usually when grub loads you should have the chance to select the advanced menu and choose your kernel from there.

hi, thank you very much for your answer, I checked the kernel using uname -a, I was running the rtai kernel, but the latency was through the roof anyway

I installed grub-customizer to isolate the cpu and change the boot kernel

You have installed it.
If you can boot the kernel it’s installed.
The issue is the latency is no good for whatever reason.

The OP has confirmed he’s running an RTAI kernel. Tho the output of the command hasn’t been confirmed.

My first thought was that he had booted a vanilla kernel.

OK
From experience, when you get worse latency with RTAI kernel, it usually means the motherboard is on the way out, be it from dry capacitors, memory/controller issues, processor to hot, hard drive failing and keeping IRQ busy, etc, so first check the PC for bulged capacitors.
