How do I Update to 2.10

Hi, 

I am working on a project that requires me to have LinuxCNC version 2.10 because I need to be able to use periodm.

As well as this document here www.linuxcnc.org/docs/devel/pdf/LinuxCNC_Getting_Started.pdf

And I am still not able to figure out how to get 2.10. 


Under the Synaptic Package Manager -> Repositories I am unable to find the 'Other Softwares' tab and cannot find how to add it this way. 

Under the link to do so from memory there is not a file for 2.10. 

At this location  /etc/apt/sources.list.d there is not a single file or folder (and don't think they are hidden but I might be wrong).


These are the dead-ends I have chased down so far.  I would really appreciate if someone could help me figure this out/point me in the right direction. I am a hardware guy and software hurts my brain so bare with me if I a slow please. 

Btw, here is some more info. I am trying to use 'apt' to update the software.  I am running bookworm. The output of 'uname -r' is 6.1.0-10-rt-amd64.

Update: I am getting a similar error every direction I try to do this from.  The error is similar to 'Could not get lock on /var/lib.dpkg/lock-frontend. It is help by process 1736 (synaptic)'

Does anyone have any idea what is goin on with this? lol

Yes, that was a pretty silly mistake I made. I figured that out and closed it. I didn't want to post again until I was really stuck.  I was finally able to get 2.10 downloaded.  It was a little painful and I fed a lot of data from the other forum post into chatGPT and we had to update a key and make a file.  But it seems to be working. 

It did give me an error when I opened the GUI, I think this is related to gcode image that it loads up during startup as that is now missing? I am able to open the GUI after exiting the warning though.  Hopefully this warning does not cause issues. 

For now I am going to call this a success unless someones has a concern about said error.
