PWM with a 7i96 and 7i85 was created by jtrantow
I'm running a 7i96 with a 7i85 for my lathe(steppers and linear encoders) using 7i96_7i85ssdid.bit I have been using LCNC pwmgen and I'd like to switch to the Mesa pwmgen before I spend time tuning the spindle VFD pid further. (I use the stepgen.00.index-enable pin for homing)
I loadrt [HM2](DRIVER) board_ip=[HM2](ADDRESS) config="num_encoders=3 num_pwmgens=1 num_stepgens=4 sserial_port_0=00xxxx" I'm using TB3 ENC 0, ENC 1, ENC2 on the 7i85 and TB1 STEP 0, STEP 1, STEP 2, STEP 3 on the 7i96.This all works with the LCNC pwmgen driving ssr.00.out-02.
I added the mesa pwmgen and I can run the mesa pwmgen in parallel but I can't find the pwmgen signal coming out the Mesa board.
I was expecting to see the PWM output on the TB2 STEP4 (TB2-02, TP2-03) connector but I do not see a PWM gen signal?
7i96_7i85ssdid.pin from readhmid reports there is a PWM module in the firmware (and I can see the pwmgen pins in HALMeter and HALShow) but I can't figure out the pwm signal connector?
LCNCpins.txt doesn't show the PWM assignment either?
LatheSpindle.hal has my relevant HAL connections.
Any help would be appreciated.

First, it Looks like that configuration is for a 7I85S rather than 7I85
and second it look like custom firmware that has a mistake
(a PWM module instantiated but no pins brought out)
A configuration including a PWMgen should have a P in the name
I can make a proper configuration in a day or so if you wish
Do you have a 7I85 or 7I85S?

I have a 7i85 and I've been using this firmware (without using pwm) for quite a while. The three encoders are on the 7i85. Not certain how it worked but it did.
I would appreciate a new version with PWM when you get the time. (I do need the index-enable for this config.)
I use 7i92 PWM for my router laser so I should be ok if the pin gets exposed.

Could I please get firmware for the 7i92 + 7i85 with the index-enable signals and a PWMgen? I've got the control box lying out on the floor until I can get the new firmware going. Thanks!

7I85 or 7I85S?
Not sure what you mean by index enable.
(all configurations with encoders have an index enable pin)
Edit: I looked back and you are using step/dir index and a 7I85
(even though the firmware you are using is for a 7I85S)
As far as a PWM output goes, it probably belongs on a free 7I96S
STEP/DIR output, Is that OK?
This means two PWMgens on the 7I96S (PWMgen 0 for the built in analog and
PWMgen 1 for the PWM on the step/dir pins)

Sorry I wasn't clear.
I'm looking for 7i96+7i85 firmware.
As of a year ago, see "Install Advice (HOME_USE_INDEX with stepper using an encoder)", the default firmware didn't supply the stepgen index-enable pin.
I need firmware that supports HOME_USE_INDEX and a PWM pin for a VFD.

Is there some reason you are not using the built in analog out on the 7I96S for the VFD?

I have a 7i96. Is analog out available on a 7i96?

No, somehow I thought you had a 7I96S.
So is a 7I96 + 7I85 with one 7I96 stepgen (chan 4) replaced with PWM/DIR
and stepgen/encoder index on the 7I85 what you need?

7I96 + 7I85 configuration with step/dir index on 7I85
and PWM on STEP04 pin. DIR04 pin is left as GPIO
so it can be used as enable, direction, or whatever.
