You need the Stretch version of LinuxCNC for Mesa ethernet boards.
Get it in the downloads section of the main Linuxcnc page.
linuxcnc.org/downloads/

Just started downloading the Stretch version.
Reading the specifics, it says:
"This is compatible with Mesa PCI and PCIe and Pico interface boards but is not compatible with Mesa Ethernet interface boards"

The 7i76E (my board) is an Ethernet device. Any chance it won't work (but I think it referres to debian7, while the stretch should be 9)? BTW, doing a try is not a problem. I'm waiting for a new SSD to install the strecth versione, then see what happens...

Did you select "Custom" for the stepper? I'm pretty sure it won't allow value changes, or at least only a very limited range, unless custom is selected.

Yep, custom was selected. Nevertheless, the max value allowed is 5000 (even putting higher values, it automatically reduces to 5000....)

You could change that value in your INI file manually, right after running and completing the pncconf.

I'm running stretch (debian 9) with a Mesa ethernet board, you should be okay there.

After downloaded and installed Stretched version, I run Pncconf and tried to set a configuration.
This time instead of getting the test window I get an error message when I try to test / Tune the axis (see attachment); btw, I went on and finished the configuration, but when launching Linuxcnc I got an error message too......

Sorry Tommy....
Didn't answer, wife catched me :-D :-D
Unfortunately, here in Italy middle August means "HOLIDAY!!!!", and this means you don't have no more free time but to set up all the needs for holidays (it means: clean home, makeup the garden, set the luggages...... wife rules.....)
Today after work (last day, hurrahhh) I'll try to steal some time and try.
Otherwise, I'll have to wait a week, when we'll back from holidays....

Hi all. Back from holidays, wife seems to be happy this means I can enjoy some freetime :-)

Well, I did as Tommy told me (run ip a) and attached you find the answer.
I don't know if usefull, but the 7i76e pings correctly.
Tried again with PncConf, but nothing changed (well, it was just a try....)

I've a small question more, as I switched to Stretched version, and is little bit different from the wheezy version.
As I've only one RJ45, currently I use or the 7i76e or the Internet connection.
As I switch the cable, I can't find anymore the network manager (upper right menu, where the clock is), where in wheezy I could switch easily from one connection to another. At the moment the only solution I found is to switch the cable then restart linux. Any other way to make it easier?

Not sure how you're pinging anything as the attached info show a non functioning eth connection or one set as "shared to other computers" ????

You need to setup a static IP address on the host,
either via the GUI (net manager) or via the interfaces
file as suggested in the hm2_eth manual page:

man hm2_eth

A suggested static host address is 10.10.10.100
assuming the 7I76E is set for 10.10.10.10

Probably the simplest way to add internet connectivity is to
add a USB--> Ethernet or USB --> WIFI dongle to the host PC

Well....first of all, i'm totally ignorant about linux system, meaning i can't.... understand what linux tells me.
When i ping the 7i76e mean just open a command shell and input "ping 10.10.10.10",getting answers from the board; or i presume is the board answering.....
Tomorrow i'll made some other check, even following the Pcw's suggestion
