Yes, I think you only use one or the other. I'm using the USB cable on mine.

Mine is an Elo ET1515L-8CWC-1-GY-G part #E700813. Some other versions of the 1515L will not work on Ubuntu or I could not get them to work.

Thanks John,
That is the exact model that I have. If I unplug my serial cable, I lose my signal and the screen will go blank. I had thought when I originally installed this TP that I did not need the serial cable, but the only way I could get it to work was to plug both cables in.
This morning I was able to install the conf file (and modified it to be exactly like yours) and made sure that it was owned by root. I then rebooted the computer and repowered the TP and everything came back working as normal...whew! I have attached 2 files showing the results of 1. lshal | grep Elo and 2. sudo lshal > text gedit text. I still do not see the info or input product information as you have and I also don't see input.device in the text file.
At this point I am not sure if everything is working or not, nothing seems to be any different. Seems like a stupid question, but how do you go about calibrating and setting up the TP using evtouch?

At this point I would contact Elo tech support. It should work with USB alone and your not getting the proper reply from lshal | grep Elo.
Have you tried the USB cable only since you corrected the config file? Are you sure the USB cable is plugged all the way in at the monitor?
Do you think by having the serial cable plugged in that some driver was installed that hosed something up?

Sorry, I was mistaken. I don't have the serial cable plugged in....it was the video cable.
I have tried emailing their tech support many times with no response, I might have to try calling instead.

Just a quick thought try a different USB port on your computer and see if you get the proper response from lshal | grep Elo.

That didn't make any difference. I think I am going to try and reinstal the evtouch driver as it looks like some things are correct, but other files are missing.
