Loosing torque with microstepping is not my experience.
It does loose torque by quite a bit, but that is very dependent on the drive quality.
It is very simple:
-Full step = all the force of magnetic field is right on the detent = max torque
-Microstep = force from two sides keeping the detent somewhere in between = never full torque
On the other side, the full step will stall much easier at higher speeds compared to quality microstepping drive due to vibrations.

1/1 = 100%
1/2 = 70,71%
1/4 = 38,27%
1/8 = 19,51%
1/16 = 9,80%
1/32 = 4,91%
1/64 = 2,45%
1/128 = 1,23%
1/256 = 0,61%

@PCW, danke für das Rechenbeispiel.

[EDIT]
Welche Variablen habt Ihr denn angepasst? für Schrittmotoren?
und welche Werte habt Ihr hinterlegt?
