The patch makes _some_ ini file settings available as hal pins
To see the pins created, use:
$ halcmd show pin ini

The patch provides an example, _demonstration_ ini file named ini_hal_demo.ini
This demo ini file uses an ini file setting:
HALFILE = ini_hal_pins.tcl
to invoke the existing program sim_pin and show _some_ of the pins
created. Those pins are hardcoded in the ini_hal_pins.tcl
The program sim_pin lets you change hal pin values.

The ini file is not changed.

Creating hal pins for ini settings would be a precursor to
modifiying the calibration program if someone wants to do that.

You can invoke sim_pin from a shell for any pin that is writable (e.g.,
not connected already). Example:
$ sim_pin ini.0.ferror ini.0.min_ferror ini.1.ferror ini.1.min_ferror

The inihal.patch needed rebasing for the new configs directory structure,
the updated patch is(v2b):

I did apply it to my config, and the proof of concept looks good. I changed my x axis max limit, and it didn't reflect in my INI but the value did take on the control side, it would not jog past the -10.000" I set in the sim_pin screen. I have my actual value set at -16.250", so I know it works.

Anyway, thanks for the insight on your patch, hopefully it will come to fruition.
