Hi, I'm attempting to replace my 5i25 setup with a 6i25 solely for the purpose of replacing an old/dying computer with a modern one. It is proving much more difficult than I expected, and I would greatly appreciate any help.

My old setup was 5i25 -> 7i85 -> 7i84. Named foxconn-5i25
My new setup is 6i25 -> 7i85 -> 7i84. Named t5500a-6i25

When I initially plugged in the 6i25, the 7i84 pins were not detected. I figured this was a firmware issue and tried flashing a few different bin files from mesanet.com and found that 5i25_7i85x2.bit gave access to the 7i84 pins. I then tried running my LinuxCNC config, which threw an error about not being able to find 5i25 stepgen pins. The halrun show pin output on the 6i25 confirms that the stepgen pins are missing. I'm assuming the problem is that I still have the wrong firmware, but I've tried many and can't seem to find the right one.

I've attached the readhmid and halrun output for both machines.

Thanks

A 6i25 configuration should be identical to a 5I25 configuration
but you need to install the same firmware on the 6I25 that was
on the 5I25.

What actual hardware do you have?

7I85 firmware has no stepgens, did you mean to use 7I85S firmware?

The silk screen on the board just says 7i85. Is there another way to tell if it is a 7i85s? I purchased this used, so I don't have any paperwork with it.

Is it possible to download the firmware from the 5i25?

There should be a tag on the back with the part number
_But_ if you have a running system with step/dir drives
and they are connected to the card, it must be a 7I85S
(since the 7I85 does not support step/dir at all)

You can also tell because a 7I85S is missing U1
and a 7I85 is missing U7

You should use 7I85S firmware with a 7I85S card,
probably 5i25_7i85sx2.bit

It seems you were right. It is a 7i85s card, and the 5i25_7i85sx2.bit firmware worked perfectly. Thanks for your help!
