EMC2 won't start, errors
for instructions about how to install the Pure Simulator. Unfortunately the 10.04 link to the binary is broken. Where can I find the Pure Simulator and how should I install it?
Thanx

www.linuxcnc.org/lucid/dists/lucid/emc2....2-sim_2.4.6_i386.deb
Also, you can use the Synaptic Package Manager to get the sim by pointing to linuxcnc2.5-sim.

1) fresh install U 10.04 desktop - no EMC
2) followed instructions on this link (mentioned in a previous post)
wiki.linuxcnc.org/cgi-bin/wiki.pl?LinuxCNC_Pure_Simulator
Entered the 4 lines of code into terminal and watched things happen - seemed to run OK
3) Opened the resulting app and it appeared identical to what 'normal' LinuxCNC looks like after installing the live CD - I thought I would see something to indicate the Pure Simulator thing
4) Chose a configuration and it puked again with the attached file
Can anyone clarify? - I am at a loss just now
Thanks

OK, you are trying to run a real config on a sim system, right?
So, this config is trying to install the real time parallel port driver as
a kernel module, and it doesn't exist on a sim system. There is a corresponding
simulated parport driver that is associated with the sim system that should be
used instead. There should be sim configs files present on your install,
only those will work without change.

You've got to pick a "sim" configuration from the list, otherwise HAL whines about a missing library in "probe_parport: dlopen".
Try this...
Start EMC2
You should be presented with a list of configurations.
Go down the list till you find the "SIM" section.
Select one of these to try.

I do have another question: when I try running another G code program I get an 'out of machine limits' error. How can I change the machine limits for the Axis sim ? I am wanting to use the sim mode to verify programs by looking at the back plot.

If you have not done so already you can try jogging over to a good starting point and "touch off" all your axis before starting running the G code.when I try running another G code program I get an 'out of machine limits' error.
The display will you show you in red where there is a problem.
