setting up EMCO Compact 5 PC

I am not quite sure if this is the place to put this but anyway.

At school we have an old compact 5 pc that has lain dormant for a number of years and I am not attempting to restore to a condition that everyone can use it in (as opposed to using the old 486 that it had already).

I have jumped the octal latch ic with bits of solder and the old software still moves it so I am assuming that that fix will work. I am a little unsure as to what numbers I will need to put into EMC on the computer, as this is my first real interfacing project and I havent done much with cnc lathes before.

If anyone can help that would be greatly appreciated. Even if you can only point to some information that will help me learn some more on this subject.

Thanks in advance.

I would start by reading the EMC2 Getting Started Guide.

What numbers are you referring to?

Have you installed EMC2?

Is it a stepper lathe?

Yes I have read the entire instructions but unfortunatly a large proportion went straight through my head.

I have it installed in a coldswap setup in my computer at home and as soon as school starts again I am planning to install it there.

I think that the numbers are the ones for the stepper motors... speed, accelaration, etc. I think from memory that there a a numbere of presets there but because the lathe is so old I am pretty sure that none of those is a suitable representation of the lathe.

Once I get home I will check what EMC calls them.

Thanks for showing an interest

Each time you read them a bit more stays with you so keep on reading.

The drives have minimum timing requirements for step, step space, direction setup, and direction change. So step one is to find out what kind of drives the machine has and are they stepper drives or servo drives...

The power the motors have and the machine mass will dictate the speed and acceleration settings.

ok I have now got the lathe hooked up to a computer running EMC2.

however I now have no idea what the pins used by the lathe are, so if anyone knows what they are or where I can find them could you please post on here.

LINEAR_UNITS = inch

et remplace avec:

LINEAR_UNITS = mm
