Maybe there is a way to find out what module it is and update that specific module?

You need to build the module against the 10.04 kernel, so need the source code. The module built for 12.04 will not work.

If you do the legwork and find out which module it is, I can try to build it.
Also would need to know which exact kernel it was that worked, 12.04 lists kernels 3.2.0-23 to 3.2.0-32 and it is possible support came in somewhere in that range and might not have been present initially.

How can I find out?

The Ubuntu forum search engine will be what you need

Does this help?

Looks like someone installed 11.04 OK once the BIOS setting for SATA were amended
askubuntu.com/questions/62904/clean-install-hd-problems

Another reference also speaks of changing BIOS SATA setting from 'Compatibility' to AHCI to enable a HDD to be recognised, so perhaps see what you can achieve with BIOS changes first?

Hi ArcEye,

Thank you so much! I have just come back from a open day at my flying club (radio control), and saw your post.

Set SATA to AHCI, system boots fine now on own SATA port!

Now to find out if I followed the right procedures before posting that my machine setup won't work!

Again thanks!
Regards
Peet
