replacement of GEDIT with Mousepad
When did Linuxcnc Live ISO's switch from Ubuntu to Xubuntu? seems my issues are common for newbies since this change.
- GEDIT missing
- defined user not SUDOer
By the way, I watched your Holbrooke conversion videos yesterday. Love the way you integrated the two jog wheels into the apron. Are those aluminum castings, or did you do iron? Look forward to an updated video showing your current controller gui.
BJT, Thanks, I'll try that tonight.

The LiveCD is based on Debian Wheezy, not any sort of Ubuntu. This was because of restrictions imposed by Canonical on redistributed installers, as I understand it.When did Linuxcnc Live ISO's switch from Ubuntu to Xubuntu? seems my issues are common for newbies since this change.

The castings are all iron, but I didn't do them myself. I made the patterns and sent them to a foundry. It costs less than you might think.

"I got quite good at sitting in a cupboard with a knee supporting the motor while I tightened nuts. But I never learned to enjoy it"
That had me nearly wetting myself.
Great restore on the Rivett, and weird Motorbike. I am working on a new furnace to successfully cast iron, as all the previous attempts have been failures.
Are you sure that Holbrook is only 700KG? My Boley 4LV is 680kg, and it is only 8x18, and Looks less massive.

That's what the manual says (well, it says 760kg / 1650 lbs.)

I tried that, but it also gives an error:
boley@Boley-4LV:~$ sudo apt install -y gedit/trusty gedit-common/trusty gedit-plugins/trusty
[sudo] password for boley:
sudo: apt: command not found

Hi BJT,
I tried that, but it also gives an error:
boley@Boley-4LV:~$ sudo apt install -y gedit/trusty gedit-common/trusty gedit-plugins/trusty
[sudo] password for boley:
sudo: apt: command not found
Sorry a typo in my notes the correct command as Andy pointed out is apt-get
sudo apt-get install -y gedit/trusty gedit-common/trusty gedit-plugins/trusty

Edit: You must be fully updated before you can install gedit. I updated and waited a few then had to update again.
In a terminal
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install gedit
