Mitsubishi SSCNET was created by Burtski
Hello All,
I have a Mitsubishi powered VMC that is need updates.
The Axis drives are MDS-A-SVJ 's and the spindle is MDS-A-SP.
These appear to be controlled via SSCNET. I am not finding much info on this.
It appears to be some type of high speed serial multi drop bus.

Any pointers would be great.
Thanks

Yep, I have looked through all of that.
There just does not seem to be much info on the MDS-A drives in the first place.
They do appear to be SSCNET but it is not clear which version.
It looks like the MDS-A drives are primarily used with the MELDAS controls.
If I need to put new drives into this machine, it is not worth saving.

If the machine is currently functional then it is just about plausible that you could monitor and reverse-engineer the protocol.

However, unless you want a project, it might not be sensible to attempt.

Going to drag the o'scope and logic analyzer over to the shop this weekend.
I have not seen to many other people asking / searching for this.
Is there anyone else that might be interested in this?
The machine itself is a Mighty Comet.
I get the impression that there might be a fair number of these sitting in back corners of shops.

Would this help?

www.yurtaev.com/

He says he has a driver for LCNC 2.7 and links to the PCI card he made on eBay

Good find!

I suppose that _might_ do the trick :-)

I made contact with www.yurtaev.com early on.
The MDS-A-SVJ drive predates this card.
The response from www.yurtaev.com was pretty much " I doubt it ".

Can you get one sale-or-return to try it?

actually i said i'm pretty sure it won't work with MDS drives as the current firmware is SSCNET II only (MR-J2S-B drives)
i have a basic understanding of SSCNET I protocol (MR-J-B, MR-J2-B) and plan to implement it in the future.
but i haven't seen MDS drives yet and judging by the differences between SSCNET I and II (no similarities at all except the link-level) i can guess it will not be SSCNET-compatible either. but i just bught a MDS-A-SVJ drive on ebay and will have a look at it when it arrive. but it gonna be tough without a woking setup :)
