Or you can download the firmware and mesaflash from here:
www.linuxcnc.org/dists/stretch/base/binary-amd64/
No need to download and install hostmot2-firmware-all and that is just a meta package that has all the others as dependencies.
And use gdebi to install the firmware packages and mesaflash.

Problem is that those packages dont work running lcnc on mint in uspace you get an error stating
"LinuxCNCVersion: UNAVAILABLE" with a traceback error.

This has been fixed now, May take sometime to merge into 2.8 git sources.
