I think I got it to compile but not to run. I was attempting it a RIP. I'm sure it is all me though I'm just learning how to do all of this. I am going to have another go at it now that I have completed some honey-do tasks that were put upon me.

How did it go?

I got Linuxcnc built and running in RIP. Running latency-test right now.

After about an hour of 6 GLXGears
Servo thread (1ms): 33201
Base thread (25us): 31888

Just after firing up the Chromium browser
Servo thread (1ms): 54854
Base thread (25us): 31888

After starting a video
Servo thread (1ms): 58737
Base thread (25us): 134737

After moving the browser around on the screen
Servo thread (1ms): 128371
Base thread (25us): 133737

The YouTube video played choppy. The most I would ever do while LinuxCNC was running but not during milling would be to look at he G-Code reference using the browser.

This is on a Rapsberry Pi 4 with 4GB and a SanDisk - Ultra Plus 32GB microSDHC UHS-I Memory Card

I think the top number with the just the 6 GLXGears running looks pretty good. Am I correct?

If your using an Ethernet Mesa card you can ignore the base thread.

I run the latency histogram like this:
latency-histogram --nobase

And yes the servo thread numbers look fine.

I ran it with no base for about 45min last night and got this.

Servo thread (1ms): 34925

If I were to actually put a Pi in my machine I would be using a Ethernet Mesa.

Thanks

In Stuttgart we successfully turned a lathe pawn with a Pi4 and Mesa Ethernet card. (This was on a lathe that was converted to CNC in only one day)

Andy,
Is there any pictures/video of it? It's always good to see what others have accomplished.

I think that someone took a video, but I have forgotten who,
I took one photo, and that isn't a very good one.

Andy, thank you.

There's enough in the picture to see how everything connects together. I'm assuming that when everything's done, it's all going to be DIN rail mounted.

It's amazing just how much can be accomplished with such a small computer.
