I'm trying to install Debian 10 on a ASUS PRO H410M-C with a Seagate ST250DM000-1BD14 SSD. I've tried a bunch of versions of Debian and Ubuntu and after installing at boot up I can see the login prompt for a second then I have to do Ctrl Alt F2 to login to the command line but no desktop at all. Trying a live images does nothing that I can see, just a blank screen.

Running the live Lubuntu 19 from the CD as ugly as it is with the bird on the desktop works!

I've seen people mention something bout SSD being so fast that lightdm fails to load. A stock install and systemctl status lightdm shows it failed. Adding
[LightDM]
logind-check-graphical=true
and systemctl status lightdm shows it as active but still no desktop.

I'm a bit stumped and have been beating my head on the desk for a week trying to figure this out.

SSD and MB info
sudo dmidecode -t 2
# dmidecode 3.2

Another tid bit of information the MB will not boot from any of my HDD's that have working OS's on them, the bios can check the smart thing but they do not show up as a boot option...

Thanks

Enable or disable CMS in BIOS, disable UEFI if possible, and add "nomodeset" to grub.
Sorry, messed up eyes.

No CMS or UEFI selections in the BIOS.

grub
GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet splash nomodeset"

In the morning during free time I'm going to download debian standard and install openbox and see if that works.

Just booted up from the Linux Mint Mate 20.1 live iso and everything seems to work fine, I guess Debian is broken somewhat.

If by any chance you might need QtVCP or the likes or compiling something, use the 19.3, 20 has plenty of issues with Python 2/3.
P.S.
Are you using the free version of Debian or the non-free?
Non-free usually works ok with almost everything.

It would be interesting to try Tommy's method for quick and easy installs for Debian Bullseye as the PREMPT_RT patch exists for it. It also includes the driver for the 2.5gb network driver used on the Odroid H2+ which would make life a lot easier to use this cool PC.

I tried non-free Debian.

So far Linux Mint 20.1 and 20 will run from the Live iso but fail to install with an error about the CD/
DVD drive being broken but I'm using a USB stick. I guess I'll burn a DVD and see what happens. I've tried both installing the extra stuff and not. The install makes it to the copying files part then fails. Error 5 Input/Output Error

Going to try 19.3 next.

People have been saying to unplug the USB drive at that error, wait 5 min and reinsert and the install proceeds.

Are you trying to create a LinuxCNC/Mint20 ISO?
I did that with 19.3 but it would fail to install correctly, but user BeagleBrains managed to do a proper ISO of 19.3.
Did not try it with 20 or 20.1 as the normal procedure takes about 20 minutes.
I have a feeling removing and inserting USB on Mint has no effect, Mint is much better at finding it's belongings ! :)
