If you are not loosing steps, like the spindle end up in a different position after you are done, I would guess something mechanical.
45 degree rotated ellipses reminds me of backlash.

I obviously forgot to rename the signals.
motion-type isn't used anymore, so naming should be:
tool-number-s32 and tool-number-float.

Thanks JT, this might be exactly what I am looking for. And is very well documented with many youtube tutorials.

I did manage to get the demo up and running. Will keep you posted about the progress in the next few days.

Thanks all for the help!

Lcvette spent a few hours helping me last night and I learned a ton and made notes and screenshots so that I can do it again later, if needed. The linux kernel was not a realtime version, after following the install directions, so he guided me through fixing that and manually setting the network card and doing auto login for debian. I had done last two items before but did not remember how, and I had no idea how to fix the kernel, but did realize it wasn't listed as rt when seeing it while working through different screens. It was great to have someone walk me through doing it in a way that I knew would be correct. I mention all this so that if someone else finds this thread and has the same problems, they can learn a little more about their situation.

Now, my system is up to date and I was able to get a working Axis installation going. It all seems to run properly, but my ping to the mesa card is high so I will make a new post to ask for help with that (it isn't stopping me from continuing work on the machine setup).

The next steps are to copy the sim.var file and then to copy other files and folders from the machine setup directory.

My "machine setup directory" is missing “user_buttons” folder and the pbsplash.png file.

The left is my folder and the right is from the instructions page for installing Probe Basic.

Could I please get firmware for the 7i92 + 7i85 with the index-enable signals and a PWMgen? I've got the control box lying out on the floor until I can get the new firmware going. Thanks!

For some reason the RPi docs say to use -j6.

If you are not using reset mode (Not sure if the RPI can do this)
The step pulse width is the base period.

Drifting in a (mod) 45 degree angle suggests crosstalk to me.
Maybe a loose ground or 5V common in the step wiring?

Look like analog servos so a 7I97T is probably a good choice.
As far as wiring goes, do you have a schematic of the interface PCB?

The Wiki has a problem with the certificate. We don't know what the problem is and only one person has the admin credentials at Dreamhost.
That person has tried creating a new certificate for the Wiki, but it still seems to not be working.

The result if this is that wiki.linuxcnc.org will work (with a warning that it is not secure) and wiki.linuxcnc.org will not work. (giving a sleeping robot error page)

I have tried to get help from Dreamhost, they won't talk to me....

This might, or might not, be related to the problem with logging in to make edits. I don't know how that authentication is handled.

Raspberry Pi OS PREEMPT RT 6.13 Kernel Cookbook

Category: Installing LinuxCNC

Hi gene_weber,

Thank you for the info. Back in November, 2024, I did managed to build and install a PREEMPT_RT kernel to my Raspberry Pi 4B:

[
Linux picnc 6.6.59-rt45-v8-behai-rt-build+ #1 SMP PREEMPT_RT Sat Nov 2 10:20:46 AEDT 2024 aarch64 GNU/Linux
]

But I did not know how to make other configurations as you have done: I did not know we have different displays, etc.

I have also built LinuxCNC from source and installed it from the build: only last week, I have found out that I have done a simulated-realtime version of LinuxCNC. PnCConf reports:

[
"You are using a simulated-realtime version of LinuxCNC, so testing / tuning of hardware is unavailable."
]

I did not know we can install LinuxCNC from a prebuilt package to a Raspbian OS as you have done.

Might I have a question, please? You use -j6 in the command:

[
make -j6 Image.gz modules dtbs 2>&1 | tee make.log
]

On my Raspberry Pi 4B, nproc reports 4, I use -j4.

So is it true that later Pi 4B revisions have more cores? I bought mine back in middle 2023. I don't have Pi 5 yet.

Thank you and best regards,

...behai.
