7i95 sserial port as gpio

Category: HAL

No red leds are lit. With the previous firmware 7i96t_d.bin, using the same cables, there were never any problems. And now, even if I recycle the board there is no response from the board.

I think I will try to reset to 192.169.1.121, and try the backup firmware. If that firmware is stable, then it's not the hardware board and the 7i95t_5abobd.bin firmware is the cause of it.

If the problem persists, then it could be the board.

Encoder feedback 7i77 sensor magnetic BALLUFF

Category: HAL

1. Thats correct

2. You need to set the encoder in counter mode

3. Yes, you need to use the encoder velocity signal as the feedback source
for the Z axis position loop, you may also need to offset and scale the feedback
because the THCAD2 has an inherent offset (since it has an about 100 KHz signal
at 0V)

User Prompt Custom M Code

Category: G&M Codes

So I followed the guide here: forum.linuxcnc.org/20-g-code/33642-custom-m-code-python?start=0
To set up some custom M codes for prompting the user for input.
I had this functioning under an old version of Pathpilot V2.2.4 but with a more recent update V2.10.1 this setup no longer functions.

I stripped out a lot of the code in the remap and eventually think I have the issue narrowed down to what Bevins describes here: forum.linuxcnc.org/10-advanced-configura...thon-lessons-learned
The issue being that you can't call 3 python routines sequentially within a remap. So when my M code calls for some function (Tk(), linuxcnc.command(), etc.) it just gets ignored.
There is some indication that something is wrong when linuxcnc reads in the gcode file the terminal will spit out:
is_callable(oword.m20remap) = FALSE
for each of the remaps

Not sure if anyone knows of a way to fix this issue or another way of accomplishing the same end goal of being able to prompt the user for input and then run the program based on that input.

Thank you very much for your reply. I will arrange to purchase the THCAD2. Just a few more questions, please:

( 1 ) - Are the electrical connections between the THCAD2 and 7i77 electronic boards: FOUT+ with QA0, FOUT- with /QA0, +5V with +5V, and GND with GND of TB3 of the 7i77?

( 2 ) – Since the QB0, /QB0, IDX0, and /IDX0 connections of the TB3 connector of the 7i77 will be left without any connection, do I need to update it so that the 7i77 recognizes only the A signal channel?

( 3 ) – Is there an update for my configuration that allows the 7i96s + 7i77 to recognize the THCAD2 as the Z axis encoder?

I tried with longer jumper wires but got the same error. I have the 2.8.1 version of linuxcnc so I will try what you suggested. Thanks for the speedy responses

Problems with Lichuan Ethercat servo drive

Category: EtherCAT

Hi friend... I'm glad someone pointed me to your post!
My case is exactly the same. I've been trying for 5 months and I'm about to give up on ethercat.
I'm at the same point as you were, I can identify the servo on the network but I can't read or write without it saying that it stays in PREOP and doesn't go away.
I saw that you shared it but I'm a beginner, how should I use these files you sent? Could you please detail if I should replace everything or what to do?

So, I can find ethercat slaves and they appear there, but I'm stuck in communication. Would you be willing to do remote access to help me? I can do it for a fee too... because I'm already one step away from giving up, 5 months trying...

EtherCAT Communication Issues, Lost Frames, Interruptions in Program Execution

Category: EtherCAT

The error means the GRUB is OK and working but the installation was done on a drive that no longer exists, probably into a USB device.
For RTAI see:

2 options I can think of would be to add either
a 7I87 (8 channel  sserial analog +-10V input card)
or a THCAD2 (0 to 10V voltage to frequency card)

The THCAD2 frequency would be read by a encoder input

Lathe Macros

Category: Other User Interfaces

 Hello,

First, thank you for the awesome work :)

I retrofiter a lathe and kept the original panel/keyboard.
This was a conversational lathe so I have keys for lathe operations such as facing etc.
I use the arduino-connector project so I'm able to define the key as an input in hal or as a keystroke or a text.
Do you think it's possible to bound a key with a macro in the cycle tab directly with one of the 3 options above?

EtherCAT Communication Issues, Lost Frames, Interruptions in Program Execution

Category: EtherCAT

Thank you for the response, Tommy.

I had tried all of those before actually. I hadn't looked into adjusting the shared memory, so I tried that now, but there doesn't seem to be an option for that at all. It seems it is a pretty locked down BIOS...

Did more reading and it seems that switching to the RTAI kernel is a solution for some. I figure it's worth trying out before I look into buying a new onboard PC entirely. I tried to install it on a fresh Debian Bookwork install as suggested in the docs and did the instructions from the README.INSTALL . However, I am not able to boot properly into the newly created grub kernel entry still. There is some error of the root device not being able to be mounted properly? Even though the Debian install still works with no issues. I'm attaching a photo of the error as well.

Is there some sort of better guide on how to install the RTAI kernel and LinuxCNC on it?

Probably the easiest way to add the PWM spindle control
is to hand edit the files, one way to do this is to create a
configuration for some more common hardware with a PWMgen
(say a 5I25 + G540) and copy/paste its spindle
hal and ini file sections into your 7I95 configuration.

The loss of communications is concerning. Is there any indication
of something going wrong on the 7I95T LEDs when this happens?
